In this TED talk the speaker, Maysoon Zayid has Cerebral Palsy. This disability is not genetic, it only happens from accidents. The speaker explains that even though her disability has caused many problems in her life she finds a way to overcome it.
A large variety of people with CP or any other health problems think that just because they have a disability it means that they can't do the things that "normal" people can. That is not the case, Maysoon explains how she had the type of parents that didn't believe in the word "can't", so they believed she had the potential to do the things her sisters could do. Through hard work she was able to walk around age 5, and soon enough was fulfilling her wildest dreams of being a comedian and acting in movies with her idols.
Maysoon helped me better understand the fact that everybody is not perfect, we all have our flaws one way or another. Being disabled may be a physical handicap, but it doesn't have to effect the way that you think about it. I think that being disabled is just a way for you to work harder for what you want in life. To be honest I don't think that there is a difference between "normal" people or disabled people, because in the end we all still have to work for what we want and nobody can cheat through life.
Disability is as visual as race. Just like race, people with a disability want to be treated equally and not made fun of and underestimated. Maysoon Zayid has has turned her life around by overcoming a huge hurdle in her life by doing the impossible and hopes that more people will follow in her footsteps.
