The TED talk hat I watched this week was about a man destined to live a healthier lifestyle. Even though he was getting amazing results, he was feeling too healthy. Living so healthily was killing him.
The speaker AJ Jacobs went to numerous experts and they all helped him with tips for his healthy journey. Don't get me wrong they gave good tips like, eating right, exercising, meditating, and to pet dogs, because that lowers blood pressure. There was also the washing of washing his hands properly, and to wipe down the surfaces of remote controls and the iPhones in his home. AJ Jacobs spent most of his time focused on being healthy, that's all that he cared about
Along with being healthy, he also tried to be the safest person he could be. Learning about different ways people could get hurt motivated. He even wore earplugs for loud noises. Also going to the extreme by wearing a walking helmet, just because he read a book that said more people die on a per mile basis from drunk walking than from drunk driving. By hearing about risks that may happen if he wasn't safe or healthy, he felt like he was required to do those things.
After he finished his healthy journey, it was a success. His cholesterol went down, he lost weight, and all in all he was very healthy. He also learned that he was too healthy. AJ was do focused on being safe and fit that he neglected his family and friends. He explains how joy is important to your health. A sense of pleasure and joy in his health behavior would help stick with him.
I think that no matter what you do, even if it is either learning or exercising, it has to be something that you enjoy doing. You will never be able to force yourself to like something it has to come naturally.
